Homework

Our next preliminary task is to plan and create our own school prospectuses. For homework we had to find a school prospectus and analyse it. I found a really good one over the Internet so I decided to analyse their prospectus. Here is my work;

25/01/2011. Media Lesson

For this lesson we continued to analyse magazine covers. We found two really bad covers for university magazines and analyzed them.

24/01/2011. Media Lesson

For the lesson today we learnt all about magazine front covers. I gained more understanding about the placing of the things on the front page, why they are there and their purpose. i also learnt about the names of the things in the front page. Things such as;

• Masthead; the name and title of the magazine
• Dateline; the month and year. Sometimes issues number and price is with it to
• Main Image; the picture on the front cover. There should only be one on the main page
• Main Cover Line; takes up 1/4 of the front page. It promotes the main feature/ story of the magazine.
• Coverlines; other stories within the magazine.
• Bar Code. This is obvious. has to be accessible for the shop worker.
• Selling Line; short description of the magazines main marketing point.

After gaining this understanding we took an example of a magazine cover and analysed it. We also incldued the audince profile for the magazine. Here is my work;



20/01/2011. Media Lesson

In the lesson today, the whole class was allowed to catch up and do our nature magazine. As i have already completed one magazine i had nothing left to do within the lesson. I then decided to create a whole new one using a different photograph. This time i learnt how to use the clone tool. this was useful to me as it allowed me to get rid of anything i didn't want in the photo.

Lets Get Creative.....

I found this lesson a lot of fun! it was completely different to a normal media lesson. there was only 5 of us in the lesson as most of the other participants had to sit an exam. We then each got a camera each. The aim of the lesson was to create our own nature magazine. We all then were allowed to leave our school premises to take pictures of "nature". Everybody seemed to take photographs of trees, water, leaves, animals etc. What we were all capturing was the stereotyped view of nature.

Once we had finished we went back into school, choose the photo we liked the best and created our own nature magazines using the skills we had learnt earlier in Photoshop. I felt that this lesson help me learn more about how to use the software and also i feel that i gained more skills in Photoshop.

17/01/2011 Media Lesson

In the lesson today we learnt how use Photoshop. I have used the software before but today i feel that i learnt a lot more about it and felt like i understood alot more of the software and how to use it. I enjoyed the lesson today as we each had our own laptops and we could follow what the Man was teaching us. it was so much better as it helped me understand what i was doing. It was alot of fun!!

Skills.....

I will be creating my own Music Magazine for my media course. Therefore there are certain skills I will need to have. The skills which will be assessed are;

1. Framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate.
2. Using a variety of shot distances as appropriate.
3. shooting material appropriate to task.
4. selecting mise-en-scene including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting.
5. Manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing.
6. Accurately using language and register.
7. Appropriately integrating illustration and text.
8. showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design
9. Showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size.
10. Using ICT appropriately for the task set.

Im Confused....

Today, I have been trying to follow everyone in my class. Its too confusing to find everyone and to add them :/

Media Lesson

On Thursday in the media lesson we all created our new blogs. I found it confusing as it was new. The lesson was fun as we got to use the Laptops :D
