How I Created My Double Page Spread

The first step I took to create my double page spread was to set the page size correct. I chose the international paper size and selected A4. However I needed to swap the height and width of the page to allow the page to be a landscape size.
So for my work the height would be 297 and the width would be 210.

The next step was to include all of the photos in which i want to include on the page. I am creating my double page spread about a young pop star who all the girls are in love with. I have already taken and edited my photos (I did this on a website which includes the tools in which I need to create the photos I want.) All that's left to do is place them onto the page. However, before I do this I need to get rid of the backgrounds of the photos. This is because I wanted it to look as if the artist was at a photoshot. The photos I have taken haven't given this look.

To cut out the background of the pictures I have used the Magnetic Lasso Tool.
This is such a useful and brilliant tool as it allows us to cut around the photo and it would automatically stick to the body.

(Here is a preview of how the tools work)

Once the body is highlighted I copied and pasted the photos into the paper where the interview will be. I did this for all three of the photos going onto the page. I then used the move tool to help move the photos around the page until I got it to the right place where it looked good.

For the next part I wanted to split the three photos down the left hand page up. To do this i decided to create borders. I used the line tool to  create 6 different lines to fit around the photos. I didn't like them thin so I changed the width of them to make them look thicker. I used the colour pink which is used on the front cover. This allows me to keep the colour theme running all the way through the magazine.

I then included the main heading for the article. This will be the artists name 'Josh McCoy'.

I have placed the writing in the middle of the page. This will then allow the page to look a lot different and more interesting to the reader. The interview can then be placed around the writing. I have used the font Cheri. This is the same which is used on the front cover. The font size i have used is 106pt. This allows it to be large enough for the audience to see. I also used the colour pink which has been used for the borders and the front cover.

My next task was to type up the interview for the double page. I needed this to be in the eyes of a teenage boy who has just reached fame. I also needed to come up with questions that the audience for pop magazines would want to know and be interested in finding out about.

I then selected two phrases out of the interview which would attract the audience to read the interview. My favourite one was 'I am not into shy girls. I like them to be a bit cheeky'. I thought that this would be a good one to use as the audience are girls. They want to know who he would like to go out with. I am going to place this phrase at large within the page. The best place for it is underneath the title for the interview.
I have placed it in black so that it is highlighted and attractive towards the audience eyes. It is also written in a fancy font and in italic.

My next step then was to add in the interview. This took me a while to do and fit it all in within the page. I did each question and answer separately. This would allow me to move them around the page to fit them in where I wanted them to go.

I wrote the questions in pink. This linked within the rest of the magazine. The answers were then written in black. This helped because it shows that the boy is speaking. I used the font style of Myriad Pro and the size was 12pt. I am going to place the interview within four different columns.

Once that was all placed in the best placed I am going to highlight another quote which would be used to grab the attention of the audience. This quote is one that I looked at earlier. This one is 'It wouldn't be fair on her. I would be busy and travelling all of the time'.

I placed this quote on the body of the singer. By placing the text in white allowed it to be bold to the readers eyes. To make it look more like a quote I needed to add in speech marks. Because of the text font I have selected, they don't stand out much. So I am going to add in separate ones.
As you can see the speech marks are bigger than the size of the text.

Looking at the page, it looked plain, i needed to add something else. I decided to place writing on the page which will get his female fans going mad. Asking to follow him on a social networking site. To make this bold I drew a shape. I used the shape tool and decided to draw a circle. I am going to use the same colour as his top.

I then added the text on top of the shape. This is going to say "follow Josh McCoy on twitter @officaljoshmccoy". I have written it in white and in a clear plain font style.

The last step I needed to do was to add the last minutes bits to the page. These are the page numbers. I have placed the numbers in the bottom left and right hand corners. The font style is again plain although I have used italic. The main colours were the pink and whites used throughout the magazine.

Main Image Ideas

My idea for my pop magazine was to have a pop artist who the girls all know and are all in love with. Here are some of the picture I have taken for the magazine.

I have edited and changed some of the pictures. I think it would be best if I changed the background for the photos. I tried to use a white sheet for the background to make it seem as if the artist was in a photo shoot but it didn't turn out that way. So I think the best thing to do is remove the backgrounds from the pictures.

Plans For My Double Page Spread

To the right is my plans for my double page spread. This will be the page where the interview will be from the main artist who is shown on front cover.

The first thing I would like to talk about are the images on the double page spread. On the left hand side will be a large image of the artist. By using this of the teenage boy will allow the girl to feel more closer to the pop star. Also he looks quite sweet and innocent.

On the left hand side of the page I have placed three photos of the main artists in all different poses. This gives the audience more insight into his personality and get to see more of him. The audience will have more photos of the artists. I am going to place a pink border around the images. The colour keeps within the theme of the magazine. The square looks like the photos you would get out of a photoboth. It makes the page more interesting and eye0ctahcing towards the audience.

At the top of the page I am going to place the heading for the page. This will be the artists name "Josh McCoy" This will highlight the idea that the page will be based on this artists. I am going to colour the title in with pink. This will be the same pink used on the front pages and on the border around the three images on the left hand side of the page.

Underneath the title I was going to place a quote from the story within the interview. This quote should be an interesting and attention grabbing quote. As it will be quite large and will be the tool used to encourage the audience to read the interview. Obviously the quote needs to be placed within speech marks. I am going to place this piece of writing in black. This will allow it to stand out for the audience.

Under the title and in between the photos, using columns, will be the interview. By placing the interview in the column makes the interview look more interesting and more professional, just like a magazine article. I am going to use a simple text in the interview so that the readers can actually read the article. I am going to place the question in the pink used through the whole magazine. The answers in which the singer replies will be written in black. Again it allows both of the different sections of the texts to stand out for the audience.

Plans For my Contents Page

Here is the plans for my contents page for my magazine. Please excuse my drawings, they look so stupid. Anyway, I wanted to think of a way in which I could lay out my contents page to fit in with my genre of music magazines.

The first thing which will appear on the page will be the heading 'Contents'. I am trying to keep the flow of the colours used on the front cover. I am going to write the title in the colour of pink, quite a dark pink.

The next thing are the headings to split the contents page up. I am going to have 5 different headings; features, news, reviews, style, competitions. The at the bottom right hand side of the page 'on the cover'. These headings will be written in black. This is to make is stand up and eye-catching towards the audience. I have then placed each of the texts over a pink rectangle. This will be the background for the headings.

Underneath each of the headings will be the stories which fit under these headings. I am going to get the font simple so that it makes them writing a lot easier to read. By sticking to the colour theme I am going to write the text in purple. Plus, it wouldn't clash with the other colours used. At the ends of each of the stories will be the page number to where the stories will appear in the magazine.

On the right hand side of the page will be pictures which would help annotate the stories used within the magazine. This would allow the audience to gain more insight into the magazine, see who is being written into the magazine and hopefully be even more interested and continue reading the magazine. I will try to place the pictures in all different ways to make it more interesting. I will then place a page number onto the photo too.

At the bottom of the page, next to the part where it tells us about whats on the cover, I am going to place a picture of the front cover. I have tilted the page towards the right so that it looks different and more interesting to the audience eyes. To the left of this picture I am going to place piece of writing about subscribing to the magazine. I will place the word 'subscribe' in bold pink writing so that the audience can see. The writing underneath could then say 'subscribe and be in with a chance to win a prize every week' or something like that. I am thinking about having the writing over something different. Using a photoshop tool I could place an area of stars at separate places on the page. This could help add some fun to the contents page.

Plan For The Front Cover

Here is my plans for my front cover. Please excuse the drawings and the colouring in of this page. I'm no artist ha ha.

The main image I am going to be using is a of a boy that sort of has the Justin Bieber/ One Direction/ Boy Band Look about him. He is going to be my main story and the double page spread inside of the magazine will be based on him.

He is going to be a singer who is already well known and his songs are in the charts. He is going to be someone in which the girls all fancy and want to have a chance to meet him and fall in love with him. Therefore the audience of the magazine will want to buy the magazine because of this artist.

I am going to have him standing in front of a white background (as if he is performing a photo shot). He will be wearing a shirt and tie. This way he will look smart, professional and good looking. I also think that I am going to place all kisses over his face. It gives the feel that all the girls love him and that he loves the attention from the girls. It is also as if all of the girls are fighting over him. It would add to the story which will be linked to him. "He talks about his music, fans and what all the girls are thinking.....LOVE!' Then maybe underneath saying 'Could YOU be his ideal girl?' This would defiantly get the audience of girls interested. They would want to know whether they are or not his ideal girl.

The headline of the story will be on the left hand side of the page. Above this will be a circle with a competition. 'WIN!!! A chance to meet _____ At A Concert In New York' By placing this in a different shape would draw the eyes of the audience towards this competition. As the audience are females they would defiantly be interested in winning this competition. The girls would jump at the chance to meet this artist.

Right at the top of my magazine will be the title of the magazine. I have named my magazine 'Sound'. This was the most hardest part. I couldn't think of any names, then when I thought up of some good ones, they were already taken or used for old magazines. I am going to place this in bubble writing. This is the style of font which mainly attracts the audience of my magazine. It creates the younger image. I am going to continue to use the bubble writing through out the whole cover of the magazine.

Above the title of the magazine I am going to write the date for the magazine, the issue number and the price. On the left hand side I am going to place the date. I am creating my magazine as a weekly one. The issue number and price will be placed on the right hand side of the page. I am going to set the price of the magazine at £1.60.

Underneath the title will be the selling line. I am going to write 'hot gossip, hot music, hot stlye'. This should then entice the audience into buying the magazine. It also informs the audience what the magazine will be about and based on.

At the top left hand side, above the competition and below the title for the magazine, there will be another story. It will be of a girl singer who has been caught kissing with another major, well known artist. The title of the story will be named 'EXPOSED' Then the names if the artist.

On the opposing side of the magazine there will be a section where is says free posters. By including this on the front cover will allow the audience to believe that the people buying the magazine are getting a deal. They are getting something free. I will include two photos of two different boys. The backgrounds of the photos will be bright colours. Next to the photos I am going to place a caption which should attract the audience into wanting the poster such as 'Yummy Poster of _____' or 'Kissable Poster of ______'. Something that the audience will be interested in. The photos will again be off boy singers. Ones that the girls are majorly interested in.

Underneath that story, on the right hand side of the main image, I will place a list of the other singers/bands which are included within the magazine. I will use bullet points to create the list. After naming one I will place a pink line underneath to split the list up. It will make the list eye-catching towards the audience.

The main colours in which I am going to use throughout the magazine are different pinks and purples. I think this would be a good idea as the main audience for my magazine will be girls. These are the colours which illustrates this view and also want the girls would want to see. I think that in some places I should include other colours such as yellow to give it a contrasting feel and make it look different. Than just one or two colours.

Top Of The Pops is a magazine is published by the BBC. It includes chart information, gossip, fashion and beauty advice, posters and song lyrics. It is a magazine which supplements the programme of Top Of The Pops. The genre of music in which this magazine focuses on is Pop. Hence the name of the magazine. It focuses on showing the audience of the artists which are in the charts at that particular time. It also concentrates on choosing and writing about the right people in which the audience is interested in at that time of release.

This magazine is a monthly magazine. The particualr issue in which I am looking at was released on the 3 of Feb - 2 March 2010. The magazine costs £2.99.

Audience Profile
I think that this magazine is aimed truemendously towards young females. Little girls. I have this opinion becuase of the langauage, colours and the people they have on their front cover of the magazine.

The ages of the audience starts at the age of 10 - 15 years old. The magazine seems to be a young magazine. Again I can tell this straight away from the front cover.

The interest of the audinence would be that they need to have an interest in pop music. They should also be girly girls. The magazine will include fashion and beauty tips and this which, sterotypically, people would associate with the female kind. The audience needs to want to know about the people included within the magazine and the stories in which they have in the magazine.

On The Front Cover
The colours used on this magazine are the basic girly colours; pinks, purple, yellow and white. This adds evidence that this magazine is for girls. The colours which have been used are helping them aim the magazine towards the girls. Theres no way in which the boys will pick up the magazine with girly colours all over it.

One major part of the magazine are the photographs they have placed on the front cover. There are several photos in the front page of the magazine. They are off famous pop artists in which the audience of the magazine are interested in and would want to know about these people. The main image is placed on the right hand saide of the page. It is of a new band called JLS. Girls love them. They are obbsessed with the band. One of the boys is placed more closer to the audience than the others. This is because he is the main one that all of the girls are in love with. Therefore by placing him there tricks the girls to think that he is close to them. The girls also want to know about these boys. They help sell the magazine.

Then there are smaller pictures of other artists placed around the front cover of the magazine. They help annotate the other stories which will be included within the magazine. Again these people are famous and are who the audineces are interested in. They help to sell the magazine. At the bottom left hand side of the page there are another two photographs. These give a hint to the audinece what posters are included in the magazine. The photos are of two boys. Again the girls love these boys and would want to have a poster of them on their bedroom walls.

Language
Next to the main image they have given an example of the story. It says "In Bed With JLS. Why They Want A Cuddle From You" this is a great story to get the girls interested in. Its their fantisy to meet and have a cuddle from the boys of JLS.

Another way they have used language is for one of the stories included in the magazine. The headline is "117 Star Style Secrects". They are giving style adavice for their audinece. Again, as the audience is girls they woudl want to know about style. By using a large number of 117 it encourages them to read it, especially as they are "Star" style secrects. The audience is getting an insight into how to become their pop icon, someone famous, by known their stlye secrets.

Where they are advertsing the free posters they added caption which would definatly intregge the audinece to want them. Beside one of the boys they said "HUGE Joe Poster". Making the audience think that the postor is massive. They have to have it. Then next to the poster of Taylor Launter they wrote "Kissable Taylor Poster". Encourageing the girls that this is their chance to kiss Taylor. They must have the poster.

This magazine definatly fits in with the target audience of the magazine. They have the right photos to help sell the magazine. The girls would want to know, look and read about the famous pop artists. The stories and the lanaguage used also encourages them to buy the Top Of The Pops magazine.

Q Magazine

Q magazine is a monthly edition which is produced in the United Kingdom. The magazine has a circulation of 130,179. The magazines selling line is "The UK'S Biggest Music Magazine" this informs the audience that the magazine is based on all the different types of music. Devoting itself to interviewing and writing about the worlds most popular musicians and bands.

Audience Profile
I feel that this magazines audience is aimed towards the two different genres, both males and females. I think this because the magazine is based on all sorts of artists and music.

The ages of the audience I think is the ages from around 19-40 years of ages. From this magazine you can see that they have articles on the newest upcoming artisit Lady Gaga and then a story on Jimi Hendrix who was a gitarist a long time ago.

Interests of the audience plays an important part of the magazine. They need to be interested in music. This magazine is good as it is based around a large area of music. They focus on the newest artistis. The audience needs to be interested in knowning about the newsest artists in which the magazine is writing about.

On The Front Cover
The first main thing you cna notice on the front cover of the magazine is the main image. The photograph is of Lady Gaga. She takes up the whole center of the page. Her hair covers part of the selling line at the top of the magazine. She is topless but is covering herself with gloves with long spikes coming out from thr ends. Her trousers are the same, just black with the spikes coming down from the sides of the trousers legs. By having Lady Gaga as a main image helps attract the audience towards the magazine. As she is a new singer. The audinece will want to know all about her.

The title of the magazine is placed on the left hand side of the magazine cover. It is placed in a large red square with the letter Q, written in white, is placed on top. This enables the name of the magazine to be bright which will help draw the audiences eyes and inform them that this is the magazine. This also acts as the magazines logo. Allows the audinece to recognise the magazine.

Colours, which have been used for the cover, is; red, white and black. They are all used on top of the background colour grey. This allows the writing to be seen and noticable for the audience. The authors have not set a colours for the headings etc. They have just used colours fo whatever.

Some of the text has been highlighted to add emphasis to what it is explaining. They want the audience to see this piece of text. It encourages them to read it and then continue to read through the rest of the magazine. The font style and sizes are all different for differetn pieces of the text on the front cover. The text which introduces Lady Gaga splits into two. The first part of "GaGa" goes behind the photo of her and the second "Ga" layers on top of her.

Language
The language used on the front covers helps attract the audinece. For the main story about Lady Gaga they have written "Move Over Madonna....Lady Gaga Has Risen". This informs the audience that this new singer is going to be biggger and better than the amazing Madonna. This would then enocurage the audience to read the article on Lady Gaga. Anyone who is going to be better than Madonna needs to be known about in the public. The use of words here when introducing the article trciks the audience into buying the magazine just to read this article.

Another trick the authors have used is the large heading written in red which introduces another story. This is "100 Most Shocking Moments in Music". By using the large number of 100 allows the audience to think 'WOW! is there really 100 shocking moments?' they will then be intreeged and would want to know what the 100 shocking moments are.

As I said from the beginning that the magazine is based on all different artists this can be proven from this cover again. On the left hand side of the page they have listed all of the other atisits which they have stories on. They have listed "Slash, Julian Casablancas, John Lindon and Jedward" This is such a variety of different musicians. Form bands to a groups which came from xfactor who only selected people seemed to enjoy.

Mix Mag!

Mix Mag is a dance and clubbing music magazine. Therefore this is the genre of the music the magazine is based around. The type of music which you can just jump and dance around around your room too. It has a lot of beats and a lot of technical side to the music. Sometimes there isn't any lyrics mix in with the music, just the sounds of the music behind it. The type of music in which the magazine is based around would be what you would hear in a club. Something you could just rave to.

This edition of the magazine was released in the month of March 2011. It will cost their audience £4.20.

Audience
For the Mix Mag magazine I think that they magazine is for both the two genders. However, knowing about the genre of music, I think the males may possibly buy the magazine more than girls do. It just seems that men would listen to the music more. Although, at the clubs girls are always dancing. So really it is aimed at both genders.

The age group at which this magazine is aimed at would be 16/17-30 year olds. I think this because this is the age in which the people who are this age will begin to go clubbing and have first hand experience in listening to this sort of music. They will then begin to know about the genre of music and then want to know, listen and find out more about the people who perform the clubbing and dancing music.

The class for the magazine could be anything, any of the groups. Although, I think that it would be aimed more towards the people within the groups of C1, C2, D'S. I think this because these are the type of people who attend the clubs. They are always out on a Friday, Saturday night, staying up late, dancing and drinking in the clubs who play this genre of music. But that doesn't mean that people in the groups of A and B wouldn't listen to this genre of music and would like to buy the magazine.

Interests of the magazines target audience is a huge part as well. The audiences major interest has to be that sort/ genre of music. No way would someone who is interested in classical music would buy this magazine. The music magazines specializes in one certain genre of music. It isn't like a lady magazine who has articles about anything and everything. Therefore the audience needs to have a major interest in the music. Also part of their interests would be that they would like to know about the artists who perform the dance/clubbing style of music and they want to know where this artists will be appearing and when.

On the Front Cover
The background of the magazine cover is dark/navy blue. However, coming from the bottom left hand corner there are small circles. This acts like a ripple. This give the audience a hint and a feel of the genre of music the magazine is based around. The background reminds me of a stereo speaker being placed and the waves of music be pumped out of the speakers. This reflects the large speakers which are placed into clubs where the music is played at a high volume and the sounds are pumping out of the speakers in large circles.

The colours used on the front colours is a wide range of colours. The main colours used are yellow and pink. These colours are very bright ands vibrant. This sort of reflects the areas in which the genre of music is played. In the clubs they have all sorts of flashing lights shooting around everywhere. Where the two main colours have been used enforces the text and what the authors want you to mainly focus on. So then by placing these text in the colours attracts the audience to these phrase's and immediately draws and attracts the audience eyes straight towards these pieces of text.

The main story headline is in a bold and a retro font style. The yellow used to colour in the text allows the headline to stand out. This encourages the audience to be attracted and drawn into the magazine. Its as if the author is trying hard to highlight the story headline to the audience. Then by latching the colours of blue and pink as the border around the text again add to the empathises to highlight the title of the story. The way in which the main headline is presented again add to the idea/stereotype of the genre of music this magazine focuses on.

The main cover line of the magazine in in bold white. The text of the magazine cover is more bubbly. All of it is in lower cases. The have dotted their 'I' with a circle inside a circle. This could also be seen just like the ways the circles are on the background. As if they are sound waves coming from the speakers.

Other story headlines are placed down the right hand side of the front cover. The main heading which connects the others together is placed in white. This doesn't really stand out and act as and eye-catching pieces for the audience. I think that this could be because it just adds emphasis to the main story headline which has already introduced the main story. This is just there to introduce the list of all the drugs underneath.

The headlines underneath are all placed in pink and yellow text. This text is probably the worst on the front cover. It advertises nasty habits and things which are illegal. By placing it in these colours it highlights the words and encourages the audience to notice and read these pieces of information. It would then encourage the audience to continue to read and flick through the magazine.

On the top right hand corner of the front page there is a photo of a club. The border around the picture is the pink and yellow colour used around the front page. As they are florescent colours this would draw the audience towards this corner of the magazine. They are advertising one of their main stories. They want their audience to read that story.

At the top left hand side there is an advertisement which informs the audience about the free CD they are giving away with the magazine. There was a variety of colours used which helped draw the audiences eyes towards this. The free CD is stuck to the bottom left hand side of the magazine. By placing the two on the left hand side allows it to be seen when the magazine are on display in the newsagents and shops.

The language used on the front cover of the magazine matches the stereotyped view of the people who listen to this genre of music. The main title is "drugs survey". This gives the impression that the authors have gone around to all different clubs and asked people their views and opinions on the different drugs. The other writing down the right side of the cover magazine is mentioning all the different drugs with either a jokey or saying to go with it. This goes with the audience as these people go to loads of clubs and raving to the music. The type of music matches the way in which people act when they are on or taking drugs.

I think that this magazine defiantly targets their audience exactly towards their needs. The authors of the magazines know what their audience want to read and know about and they have matched this with their front over of the magazine.

Weekly Magazine - Kerrang!

Weekly Music Magazine
Kerrang!

I am looking at the weekly music magazine of Kerrang! This issue was released February 13th 2010 and it cost the audience £2.20. The magazine is published by Bauer Consumer Media in the UK.

In my opinion I feel that Kerrang! is for a very specific genre. They focus mainly on Indie, Rocky, bands who play their own instruments sort of music. I got this idea through the way in which the style and the font is from the title for the music magazine.

Audience Profile
For the Kerrang! magazine I think that the target audience is quite specific for this magazine. I think that it targets both males and females. This is shown through the colours used on the front page of the magazine. The authors seem to want to reassure the audience that is is for both men and women. They also want to make sure that both the two genders are drawn into the magazine and are also going to buy the magazine.

I think that the age groups for the music magazine are 13 - 20 year olds. It seems to be a young magazine. I especially feel that it targets the youngsters more because on the front page of the magazine there are techniques used to draw the audience into the magazine. They have articles about "The Ultimate Love Guide" and "Valentine's Poster Special". Only younger girls would really go for this. I can not image 20-30 year olds sticking posters onto their bedrooms walls. Young girl stereotypically do this.

The interests of the target audience for Kerrang! magazine obviously needs to be the people who enjoy, buy and listen to the indie, rocky sort of music in which this magazine offers and focuses on. Inside the magazine there is a large part where they advertise a lot of gigs and concerts for the artists and bands who play music within this particular genre. I also feel that the audiences interests would need to be the celebrities and singers in which the magazine writes about. However, these singers are again linked to this specific music genre. You wouldn't see someone who loves listening to rap buying and reading this magazine. It just wouldn't interest them.

I do not think that the class of these people really link in with the audience profile for this magazine as it mainly focuses on targeting the people who enjoy listening to the specific indie, rock genre of music. Although, the price for this magazine is quite expensive to pay weekly. People in group D and E wouldn't proberbly pay for the magazine but are interested. I couldn't imagine a princess wanting to buy this magazine as they are stereotyped to be elegant and feminine, which is completely the opposite to the style of the music. But these people could easily be interested in the music and enjoy listening to it. So I would give a list of B, C1, C2 and D's.

On the Cover
When you look at the front cover of the magazine the first thing you notice is the main image. This is of two men. I don't know these people but I am guessing that they are artists or even in a band which play the genre of the music that the magazine is writing about. The photo is in the center of the page and is quite large and in your face. The man who is standing close towards the audience is pointing towards to the audience. It feels like it is in 3D as his finger seems as if it is about to come out of the page and into real life. This would help attract and draw the audience into the magazine as it seems that the man is personally looking at the audience, pointing at them, edging them to open the magazine. I get the image of the war poster saying "your county needs you". This was used to get men to join the army whereas, on this magazine, it is encouraging people to open and buy the magazine. At the bottom of the page there are another two photographs and another at the top. Again, the people in the photos must be artists who are singers or are in bands which play this genre of the music.

At the beginning I began to mention how the title of the magazine helped hint and tell me the type and style of the genre of the music the magazine is focusing on. Obviously the title is, Kerrang!, the font colour is white and is sitting over a black border. This helps highlight the name/title of the magazine as they are two contrasting colours. It allows the text to stand out and attract the audiences eyes. The font style of the title is block writing. However, there are lines cutting through the words at all different angles. This looks to me like broken glass. It reflects the style of the music.

There are four different colours used on the front cover of the Kerrang! magazine. Black and white are simple colours used to help texts stand out to the readers eyes. But the main colours used were blue and pink. I think the reason they used these colours were to attract both the genders towards the magazine. As if they would like to reassure the audience that the magazine is for both genders. All of the main texts are written in the blue. They used to pink for all of the other advertisements. They used it to show all of the girlie parts such as the "Valentines Poster Special" and "the Ultimate Love Guide". These are the section in which the females would be more interested. Boys defiantly would not be interested in these sections. The pink is also used to show the competition which is on the front page. By changing this colour from the blue and black used on the main front page allows the audience to clearly see the advertisements and would defiantly attract and draw the audience into the magazine.

The competition is a good way to attract the audience and readers into the magazine. It will also convince them to buy the magazine. The competition is to meet and greet one of the well known and famous bands which perform the music within the genre that the magazine is focusing on. The prize for the competition is defiantly something that the audience of the magazine would defiantly be something they would love to be interested in. This is a great way that the authors draw and attract the audience to the magazine. It will encourage them to want to buy the magazine. As they will buy it for the competition they will also be encouraged to read the magazine.

Evaluation of my Contents Page

Here is my contents page for my school magazine. I have carried all of the coulours and the font styles over from the front of the magazine. This will keep the magazine consistant. Also, it allows the audience to recognise that it is still the school magazine for St Mark's.

I used the red school colour as the background of the page and also as the main heading text. I used the school yellow to create a border at the top of the page. This helps seperate the two from each other. It allows this page to stand out more. I have also included the school logo, again this will help recognise that the magazine.

I used the yellow/beige colour for the headings. I used it for the heading for the "Contents.....", the page numbers on the list of contents, the page number at the bottom right of the page, the heading at the bottom of the page saying "On The Cover" and then lastly to show the page numbers for the stories situated on the Contents page.

I have added the colour white to this contents as I felt it made the stories stand out more. As I had already used the yellpw/beige colour for the page numbers I didnt want to over fill it with that colour. I then decided to use white. I could have used black but I felt that it didnt go with the rest of the page.

On the bottom left of the contents page I included a section where it shows you the front cover. Next to the picture it has a list of the stories on the front cover. I thought that this was a good idea as anything in which the audience were interested in on the front cover helped them see clearly which page that particular story is on.

For the list of the contents I placed it in center allignment down the middle of the page. This allowed me to place the photos around the list. The numbers down the side indicate what page the stories are on.

Either side of the contents list I have placed several pictures. These pictures annotate whats listed in the contents list. The first two photographs help annotate the story for the opening of the new sixth form block. One picture is of the block and the second is the plack which states who the block is for and when it opened. The next two photographs annotate the story for the art work story. The pictures show some art work of the students. This should hopefully interest the audience into looking at that story to look at all the paintings and art work students have created.

The next picture I have placed on the page is of a poster. It is saying about all the choices the students have if they decided not to go to uni. This is a big decision for the sixth form students at this time This is why I have included this story into the magazine.

The next to photos are off the school photos of the students who have attended the school in that particular year. What I wanted to get across is that so many people are deciding to come to Sixth Form and study a-levels. Over the years the number of students have increased.

Improvements

What I didn't like about my contents page is that where I have placed the photos it doesn't actually link up or is in line with the story in the contents page. It is then hard to tell which photo goes with which story. What I think I should have done is placed captions under the photos to explain in detail what the photo is about.

I also think that instead of placing the numbers for the list i should have placed the word "page" just before the number.

Front Cover Evaluation

I have completed the front cover of my school magazine. The audience for this magazine was to be the sixth from students at St Mark's School. Therefore the ages are from 16-19 years of age. The selling line I have included into the magazine adds to the audience of the magazine. It states what the whole magazine is about and who it is aimed towards. "Your Guide to Get Through Sixth Form", none of the younger students will want to know about the news and information about the sixth from. It just doesn't relate to them.
All of the text  have used on the front cover is in the font style of Impact. This make the font bolder and more block. It causes it to stand out. By using this for the Masthead it makes it stand out and attention grabbing to the audience. This is also why i used it for the Cover line and all of the other story headings. I need to grab the audiences attention and draw them into the magazine as want them to read the information. For the text i have also used the school colours. This was useful as again it cause the audience to recognise what that this magazine will be about this specific school. By using the tool in photoshop when i was creating the front cover, it allowed me to click on the colours used in the school logo and use it for the rest of the document. i used the yellowy/beige colour for the main headings and the red for the text. The red is also used for the selling and date lines which have been placed underneath the Masthead.

On the right hand side, next to the Masthead, i have placed the school logo. this emphasises what the magazine will be based on. it has been written for the school and will give all of the information about the school.

On the left hand side of the page i have included a competition. By placing this on the front cover will again gain the interest of the audience and then make the want to flick through and even read the magazine to find and then enter the competition. As this magazine is targeting 16-19 year old's they are going to interested in the competitions. Its their chance to win something that they possibly do not have.

I have placed the competition information in a red circle. Again the colour of the red is the school colour. i have then placed a title for the competition in the yellowy/beige school colour. the font style of the title is Lucida Handwriting. This is a more fun and interesting style of font. It is completely different to the style to the rest of the text on the front page. This should hopefully then cause the audience to notice it and be interested in reading why that is in a different style of text.

I have also included a picture of what the prize is of the competition. This should again hopefully attract the audiences attention and cause them to be drawn into noticing the competition and them wanting to read on throughout the magazine.

Lastly, the main image i have used for the magazine covers the whole page. The photo is off two students, standing outside the front of the school building, holding their school books and looking happy. The reason i wanted to two students to stand outside the front building was to emphasise the building and the school name. this again allows the audience to recognise that the magazine will be based around St Mark's School. Then by ensuring that the students look happy. this will then make the audience feel reassurance and know that the students are enjoying themselves at the school. By taking the photo whilst they are also holding their school books again shows to the audience that these are hard working students who want to get their work done and also to a high standard.

Improvements
I feel that there could be a lot of improvements that i could make to the school magazine to improve and make it look better. Firstly, apart from the selling line, it doesn't really show, on the front cover, that this is aimed towards the sixth from students and also about the sixth form. i should changed the name of my main masthead to something which will be clear to the audience that it is about the sixth form.

I also feel that I should have brightened the photograph up more. I could have waited until a sunny day to take the photograph. this would have brightened the photo. It would also change the feel of the photo. by having a bright, colourful picture it causes the audience to feel happy and then will add to the idea that the students are happy.

Lets Get Started!

For our lesson on the 31/01/2011 we each took a camera and went to take photogrpahs around the school for the front cover of the magazine. as i already had a clear idea of what i wanted to place on the front cover of the magazine. mine was to be of students standing outside of the front gate smiling whilst holding their school books.

By having the girls smiling whilst standing outside of the school hints to the audienece that they are hapyy and enjoy being at the school. By holding their schools books, it also indicates that they enjoy working here.

After we finished taking photogrpahs we went back into the classroom, onto the computers to begin to create our front covers for the school magazine.

To the left is the begining of my school magazine. The first main things you can notcie is that i have added a Mast Head (St Mark's Monthly), the selling line (Your guide to get through Sixth Form), Date (January/February 2011) and the schools logo.

By using the clone tool I have also got rid of objects from the photo. the first thing was the building onto of the schools name. I felt that this was a bad view. By removing the building it allowed me the space to include the name of the my magazine.

I have also changed the Hue and Saturation to allow the redness of the girls hair and the school to stand out. It brightened to photo and highlighted the school building.

Pliminary Task

Before we begin our music magazines we will be creating our own school magazines. Before we did anything we had to create plans to show, on paper, what our ideas were and what sort of photographs that we wanted to take. We had to create two plans; first for the front cover of the magazine and the second for the contents page.

Front Page                                                                            Contents Page

We annotated along the sides of the pages to describe the colours we want to use. It also allows us to explain in detail the pictures we wanted to take and how they will affect and help my magazine design.

Homework

Our next preliminary task is to plan and create our own school prospectuses. For homework we had to find a school prospectus and analyse it. I found a really good one over the Internet so I decided to analyse their prospectus. Here is my work;

25/01/2011. Media Lesson

For this lesson we continued to analyse magazine covers. We found two really bad covers for university magazines and analyzed them.

24/01/2011. Media Lesson

For the lesson today we learnt all about magazine front covers. I gained more understanding about the placing of the things on the front page, why they are there and their purpose. i also learnt about the names of the things in the front page. Things such as;
  • Masthead; the name and title of the magazine
  • Dateline; the month and year. Sometimes issues number and price is with it to
  • Main Image; the picture on the front cover. There should only be one on the main page
  • Main Cover Line; takes up 1/4 of the front page. It promotes the main feature/ story of the magazine.
  • Coverlines; other stories within the magazine.
  • Bar Code. This is obvious. has to be accessible for the shop worker.
  • Selling Line; short description of the magazines main marketing point.
After gaining this understanding we took an example of a magazine cover and analysed it. We also incldued the audince profile for the magazine. Here is my work;

20/01/2011. Media Lesson

In the lesson today, the whole class was allowed to catch up and do our nature magazine. As i have already completed one magazine i had nothing left to do within the lesson. I then decided to create a whole new one using a different photograph. This time i learnt how to use the clone tool. this was useful to me as it allowed me to get rid of anything i didn't want in the photo.
